When skiing at a resort, it’s frustrating when you lose track of your group and spend the rest of the day trying to find them. You waste time on the top or bottom of the lift hoping to see someone you know. You have one of the best runs of your life, but your friends are on another lift and don’t believe the story on the drive home. In short, it sucks when you are more focused on finding people rather than skiing or snowboarding.
The company Wearlynx, Inc. has come out with a solution to this problem with their new app SkiLynx. In the app you can create your own private ski group for the day that is able to track, in real time, what run or lift each person in your group is on, keep stats on how many runs each person has made, and allows you to chat with the group with the option to send quick predefined messages or your own custom message.
For now, the app is only available for iPhones and the Apple Watch. It works exclusively for California resorts right now, but soon it will be branching to resorts in the Rockies, covering all the major resorts in Colorado and Utah.
This is not the first app to track stats and location on the mountain. One of the most popular is SnoCru that has over 85,000 users. The big selling point for SkiLynx is that the app will only show you the location of your friends in your private group. SnoCru shows you the location of all it’s app users at that time in that area, so it’s hard to find your group.
Right now you can download the app for $2.99 from the iTunes app store. You might want to consider getting a portable charger for your phone, like the Goal Zero Flip 10 Recharger, because your phone battery will deplete faster while constantly using GPS. For those of us outside of California, this is an app we are definitely going to be spending 3 bucks on once it hits our neck of the woods.
