When creating new apparel, Fjällräven founder Åke Nordin has implemented these 3 principles since 1960: functionality, durability, and dependability. The companies muse, and what their name means in Swedish is the Arctic Fox; a small and highly adaptable predator that survives in harsh conditions in the Swedish mountains.
Hanwag started in the 1920’s by Hans Wagner in Vierkirchen, Germany, where its headquarters is still found. Hans was a master of double stitching, a rare process for making boots that is still carried on today by Hanwag. In 2004 the company was purchased by Fenix Outdoor AB, who also owns Fjallraven. It was a perfect match because of the high standard that both of the companies uphold.
Greenland No. 1 Down Jacket
Fjällräven’s patented G-1000® fabric is tightly woven, hard-tested and quick-to-dry, providing excellent ventilation, wind and water resistance, and durability. The Greenland No. 1 Down Jacket is filled with 800 goose down that is ethically produced. This jacket is great in extreme weather conditions.
Keb Eco-Shell Trousers
Eco-Shell 3-layer stretch fabric makes up the Keb Eco-Shell trousers. The outer layer is recycled polyester treated with fluorocarbon-free impregnation that repels rain, water, sleet, and snow. The next layer is a hydrophilic membrane that is able to keep water from getting in while also transporting body moisture to the outside where it can evaporate. The final layer is a thin polyester lining that makes the garment soft and comfortable against the skin.
Alaska GTX Boot
The Alaska GTX trekking boot is hand-made with premium leather. It is 100% waterproof with Gore-Tex. Because of how the boot is made, it is easily resoleable. The Alaska GTX supports heavy loads and has great durability on rough terrain.
Fjallraven and Hanwag apparel and footwear translate their highly functional, technical products into a lifestyle fit. Both brands create product with a passion for mountain life, but a necessity to live and work in a town or city.
Greenland No. 1 Special Edition
Built with the same G-1000® fabric, the Greenland No. 1 Special Edition is made with organic cotton and recycled polyester. The leather piping on the hood and sleeve ends gives it more durability.
Barents Pro Trousers
The Barents Pro trousers are great for trekking and look great on the town. Built with the G-1000® fabric with double layers of fabric on the thighs and knees for extra durability. The pre-shaped knees have openings for knee pads.
A great crossover between the mountain and city life, the Bergler looks great and performs at high levels. It is hand-made using the double stitch process (video below). Double stitching makes the boot easily resoleable, durable, and functional. Made with high quality cowhide that is made with strict environmental guidelines.
